“Everything causes cancer” has become a popular phrase that is usually used by people who are trying to defend their choice of nutrition, or a way of living without thinking about the consequences. However, the truth is that most of the food that we eat every day is not safe for our health. Here is a list of 10 most unhealthy cancer-causing foods that you should never eat.
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
GMO is all around us, in food which uses corn derivatives, soybeans, or rapeseed oil. There is no way to defend yourself from this, you can start buying organic, or certified GMO-free food, but you can never be sure.
If in doubt, the best solution is to call the manufacturer and ask. Maybe you will not get an answer immediately, but if you are persistent enough there is hope that you will get what you are looking for: GMO-free food on the plate, or even a clear, visible label on the packaging.
Sausages, salami, pates, all processed meats contain chemical preservatives, food dyes and additives to make them long-lasting and attractive to the eye, but they also cause cancer. Nitrites and nitrates are associated with increased risk of colon cancer, so it’s best to remove processed meat from your diet.
It is known that the microwave popcorn is full of chemicals which can cause testicular cancer or pancreatic cancer. There is something called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) that is found in these bags and that probably is cancerous, and several different studies have linked it with cancer. Diacetyl, which can also be found in this popcorn, causes lung damage.
Same as the processed meat, soft drinks are also carcinogenic. With too much sugar, chemicals, artificial colors, soft drinks literally feed the cancer cells. The usual chemical additives, such as caramel color and its derivative, 4-methylimidazole (4-MI), were associated with the causative agents of cancer.
“Diet” drinks and food
The only thing that is worse than colored sugar water is “diet” drinks. Several dozen of different studies have shown that the aspartame, commonly used sweetener that replaces the classic sugar, causes a variety of diseases, including cancer. Sucralose (Splenda), saccharin and many other sweeteners are proven to be carcinogenic.
Refined white flour is all around us, and is the most common ingredient in foods, but a large amount of carbohydrates is a real concern. One study showed that regular consumption of refined carbohydrates increases the risk of getting breast cancer by 220%. Foods that have a high glycemic index (GI) are generally responsible for the sharp rise of sugar in the body, which can cause the progression and spread of cancer.
White refined sugar causes a sudden jump of insulin, and it is also believed that it feeds cancer cells. Fructose, such as corn fructose, is aggressive and it has been shown that it can be rapidly metabolized by cancer cells, and thus cells can be propagated more quickly. Factory-made biscuits, cakes, pies, juices, sauces, cereals are very popular and even meat products which are overfilled with fructose corn syrup, but at the same time these products can give an answer to – why is there so many cancerous diseases in these generations.
Pesticides in fruits
Many people think they eat healthy if they eat apples, strawberries, or pears which they buy in the store. However, unless they are organically grown and certified without pesticides, there is a risk of cancer because of the excessive amount of pesticides we eat through the poisonous bark.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) determined that 98% of the entire fruit supply on the market is practically “dirty” fruit and it is contaminated with pesticides.
Fattened salmon, which usually can be found on most markets, not only it does not contain vitamin D, but it is packed with cancer-causing chemicals such as PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), pesticides and antibiotics.
The hydrogenated oil
Sunflower oil and margarine are full of trans fats, but again we use them in your daily diet. They are also used to preserve processed foods. Chemical process of hydrogenation is detrimental to our health and this process attacks the structure of the cell membrane and thus causes many diseases, even cancer. Some manufacturers replace hydrogenated oils with palm oil, but trans fats are still the biggest problem.
