A new study published in PLOS Medicine journal has shown that certain types of fruits and vegetables can help you lose excess weight.

The leader of the research Dr. Monica Bertoia examined 133,468 people in their thirties and forties, who had been completing the questionnaire about their eating habits, every four years between 1986 and 2010. The results were amazing.

The examinees who preferred vegetables with low glycemic index and high fiber content, gained less weight and improved their health condition, while cauliflower was declared to be the best and the most effective vegetable.

Fruits & Vegetables for Weight Loss

Fruit lovers that enjoyed citrus, grapes and plums didn’t gain much weight either, but the ones who gained minimum weight were actually those who preferred apples, berries and pears.

What kind of food did cause the weight gain?

Examinees who gained the most weight consumed starchy foods poor in fiber and with high glycemic index, such as potatoes, peas and corn.
