In addition to cellulite, the most annoying problem (especially on the summertime) for the ladies are stretch marks. Stretch marks are lines on the surface of the skin without pigment, which can occur in both men and women for many reasons. It can just be part of genetics, they may occur during the rapid weight loss or weight gain in pregnancy or during exercise (typically in weightlifting). In the most cases they occur in the abdominal area, but also on the thighs, hips, buttocks, upper arms and chest.

Stretch marks are formed in the dermis – the middle layer of skin – when the connective tissue is stretched beyond its limit flexibility due to a sudden contraction or expansion of the skin.

As the skin is stretched, the production of collagen is weakened and the cycle of creating collagen is interrupted. Initially these ‘cracks’ are pink or red colored, but eventually they form a grayish, whitish layer on the surface and that’s actually the stretch marks that we see later.

There are many products that are advertised with the promise to remove this cosmetic ‘issue’, for the not-so-small sums of money. We will not discuss how these prices are justified, but we can suggest that you turn to some simple home treatments. Let’s see some natural ways to remove stretch marks.

  1. Castor oil

Castor oil, which is used for a variety of effects on the skin such as wrinkles, age spots, birthmarks, dark spots and pimples, can also be used to treat stretch marks.

Apply oil to the area with stretch marks and gently rub in a circular motion for 5-10 minutes. Put a thin cotton cloth or handkerchief on it. Then put a bottle of hot water across the cloth and hold at least half an hour. Repeat this process every day, and after a month you will see positive results.

  1. Aloe vera

The healing and soothing properties of aloe will also help in the fight against stretch marks. You can use it in a several ways.

You can rub aloe vera gel directly on the problematic area, leave it about 15 minutes and then wash off.

Another option is to mix 1/4 cup aloe vera gel, 10 capsules of vitamin E oil and 5 capsules of vitamin A. Rub the mixture into the skin until it is fully absorbed. Repeat daily.

Eggs are, as we know, rich in protein. To deal with stretch marks we will use only egg whites, which contain amino acids and proteins.

Whisk two egg whites. Using a make-up brush, apply a rich layer of egg whites on the problematic skin. Allow the egg white to dry completely, then wash off with the cold water. After that, rub olive oil on that place to feed the skin. Repeat the process at least two weeks for visible results.

  1. Lemon juice

Another simple way to relieve stretch marks is to use lemon juice, which is generally good for skin problems like acne and scars.

Rub fresh lemon juice on the stretch marks in a gently circular motion. Let the skin absorbs the lemon juice around 10 minutes, then wash off with the warm water. You can also use a mixture of lemon juice and cucumber juice in the proportion 50:50.

  1. Sugar

Natural white sugar is one of the best natural ways to remove stretch marks. You can use it like peeling.

Mix a tablespoon of raw sugar with a little almond oil and a few drops of lemon juice. Mix well and rub it onto the stretch marks. Gently rub a few minutes each day before showering.

  1. Olive oil

Olive oil contains a lot of nutrients and antioxidants, which can help with the skin problems, including stretch marks.

Use virgin olive oil to massage the part affected by stretch marks. This will improve circulation and really alleviate stretch marks. Leave it for a half an hour to make the skin absorb all the vitamins from the oil.

Additional advice: Mix the olive oil, vinegar and water and use it as a night cream. Your skin will be hydrated and dead cells from the skin surface will be removed.

Nobody can give you easy and fast solution to cope with stretch marks, but as with everything – the most important thing is to be persistent and persevering! Do not give up after a few days, give your skin a chance to start reacting. Be positive, nurtured and happy!
