It often happens that the armpit skin darkens, mostly due to frequent waxing, shaving, sweating, applying various skin creams, dead skin cells accumulation in the area and it may even be hereditary, but relax, there is nothing to worry about. There are several natural, homemade products that can help fight this battle.
The armpit skin is very sensitive and increased skin pigmentation occurs because of increased melanin deposition. If you use antiperspirants a bit too often, that may only worsen the situation.

Lemon has natural bleaching properties, which most people are not even aware of. Rub a lemon in the armpit every time before showering, then let it dry and take a shower. When you pat dry your skin with a towel, apply some moisturizing cream to the armpits. This part of your body needs care as any other part does, so do not skip it when applying body lotion or milk. Try to avoid using deodorant for a few days. Repeat the treatment until you see the first results.
One of the reasons for having dark underarms is the use of a razor or a shaving cream. These methods do not remove the hair root, so it eventually strengthens, becomes more visible and hence the skin gets a darker color. Try to remove the armpit hair with wax every second or third time. This is definitely more painful process, but it will certainly remove the hair root too.
Potato and cucumber
Just like lemon, potato and cucumber have skin whitening properties. Cut a slice of potato or cucumber and rub it in the underarm area. Let it stand for 15 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water. Repeat the process on a daily basis until you get the desired results.
You can make skin whitening mask, mixing a handful of flour with yogurt, lemon juice and a little bit of turmeric. Apply it on the armpit skin and hold for 15-20 minutes. Then rinse it with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel. If you’re planning to buy a mask, make sure you choose clay-based one.
Sandalwood and rosewater
One of the best ways to lighten the underarm skin is to use sandalwood and rosewater mask. Mix the ingredients to get a smooth paste and apply it to the affected area. Leave it on for a few minutes and rinse. Sandalwood has bleaching properties, while rosewater soothes the skin. Apply the mask every day until you get the desired results.
Minimize the use of deodorant
Deodorant is one of the main culprits of dark underarms. Try not to use it for a few days. As an alternative, take some of the natural products to reduce the unpleasant underarm odor, such as lemon and baking soda, or buy a medical deodorant specially made for sensitive skin, in any drugstore. When the skin lightens, get a commercial deodorant for sensitive skin.
It contains vitamin E, which plays a major role in the skin whitening. Apply a little bit of coconut oil to your armpits before showering and massage it for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water and mild soap. Repeat the process on a daily basis until you see the results. In addition, coconut is a natural form of deodorant.
Make a paste of baking soda and a little bit of water and use it to exfoliate the skin. This way you will remove the dead cells responsible for skin darkening.
Papaya contains an excellent enzyme for skin whitening. Slice the papaya into thin, large pieces, apply it to the armpit area, let it dry and then rinse with water. It is best to use unripe papaya for this purpose.
Rub the armpit with a piece of sliced potato or make potato juice instead, then apply it to your underarm area, leave it for 15 minutes and rinse. The first results should be visible in a few days.
