The caffeine in black tea affects cerebral cortex, allowing learning memory and communication to develop. Only two cups of tea a day are enough to keep you from forgetfulness and reduce the risk of dementia by 60 percent.
Although there are more stories about green tea and its effectiveness, black tea is better known among the population. In Europe, black tea makes one-fifth of sales, while on the planetary scale black tea is present 70 percent more than the green tea.
You may ask yourself why we should compare these two teas in the first place? Because black tea’s “twin brother” green tea originate from the same plant. Whether we talk about green or black tea, it depends on the processing of this plant. In this process, the most important thing is the degree of fermentation and oxidation. For black tea this process is brought to an end and therefore has a dark color, sometimes reddish with penetrating taste. The taste comes from fermented juices full of flavor, which remain intact in a dried leaves until someone dives it into boiling water.
It is interesting that in the West all fermented tea is called black and in China black tea is called so due to the extremely bitter taste.
The biggest difference between these two teas is the amount of caffeine they own. Due to long fermentation black tea has more of this ingredient, which is why many people choose to drink tea instead of coffee. By the way this tea has twice as much caffeine!
The caffeine in black tea acts on the cerebral cortex, contributing to better understanding things and quickly connecting thoughts. In this way it is easier to perform intellectual operations – easy learning, remembering, communicating… At the same time black tea reduces fatigue and sleepiness. It affects the muscles to work better and is athlete’s favorite.
Studies have shown that people who drink black tea have 50 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease. Japanese scientists claim that drinking black tea rich in antioxidants increases the elasticity of blood vessels and thus makes better blood circulation. It also lowers cholesterol and reduces the risk of blood clots.
Cortisol, the stress hormone, decreases under the influence of the black tea ingredients, say experts from London. They conducted research with 75 non-smoking men, with regular habit of drinking tea. Subjects were exposed to stressful situations, in which they measured pulse, blood pressure and cortisol as any personal assessment of stress. The effects of black tea become noticeable after half an hour, and at that moment the level of cortisol and personal experience stress was much less than before intake. Based on these results experts concluded that black tea can prevent stress and helps person in recovering from stress.
Researchers claim that the risk of dementia was reduced by 60 percent when people drink black tea, in the same amount as they drink coffee. Only two cups of tea a day are enough to keep you from forgetfulness. It’s true, scientists have no answer about how exactly tea ingredients protect the brain, but they know that antioxidants keep cells from deterioration. At the same time they protect against heart attack and stroke. Seems enough?
